Islamic Shura Council of Southern California Condemns Fatal Shooting at San Diego Mosque
Orange, CA: The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California (ISCSC) is deeply saddened and outraged by the fatal shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego that killed three Muslim worshippers, including heroic security guard Amin Abdullah, says an email message. It adds:
We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, including Mansoor Kaziha, Nader Awad, and the entire San Diego Muslim community. May Allah grant them the highest ranks in Jannah as martyrs and grant patience to their loved ones.
We commend the San Diego Police Department for their swift response and urge law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute this incident as a hate crime to the fullest extent of the law.
This despicable attack on a house of worship is unacceptable. The Shura Council condemns the alarming rise in hate incidents against mosques as well as the increasing Islamophobic rhetoric coming from some of our politicians. According to CAIR, anti-Muslim complaints reached a record 8,683 in 2025 .
In response, we also call on the leadership of every mosque, center, and school in Southern California to immediately review and strengthen security measures, including keeping certain doors closed during prayers, establishing emergency protocols for staff, and preparing for active-shooter and other emergencies.
To our Muslim community: In the wake of recent threats and the attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, mosques are urged to immediately contact and coordinate with local law enforcement. Stand firm in your faith and fully participate in the upcoming Friday and Eid al-Adha prayers and celebrations. Let us respond to hate with unity, resilience, and greater devotion to Allah. For more information, see CAIR’s Mosque Hate Incident/Crime Response Checklist .
We stand in solidarity with the San Diego community and remain committed to supporting all mosques in enhancing safety while keeping our spaces open and welcoming. ISCSC is in touch with law enforcement agencies throughout the southland and continues to support coordination among the leadership.
